Works just fine April 3, 2008 Mickey Mouse (San Jose, CA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought this because I can' find them anywhere in any local auto parts vendor. I use it to determine when to replace my tires and measure my tires for winter traction (4/32" minimum for snow - tire tread visual indicators are 2/32" so they are useless to me) so no more guessing or finding those lincoln pennies for me. It works very well but is a little messy since the shaft oil rubs all over your fingers. I keep it safely stored away from dust in my toolbox.

What's to say? It's a tread depth gauge, it either works or it doesn't...
this one works. It is built well, easy to use and the price is right.
Simple and Effective November 30, 2009 S. Smith (Austin, TX USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
It's simple, sturdy, and works well. As an earlier reviewer noted, it comes with a good bit of oil on the sliding surfaces. I don't carry mine in a pocket so that's not an issue, but I did wipe it down.
I read something earlier about tread depth and stopping distances in the rain. Based on their testing, at 2/32" stopping distances go up dramatically in the wet. 4/32" is a better replacement point if this is important to you. It also matches "Mickey Mouse's" comments regarding driving in snow.
What I wanted... September 18, 2008 Bret Meyer (Lincoln, NE USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was looking for an easy way to measure tread wear on a new set of tires. This is a cheap and easy way to do so. It was quite oily when I took it out of the package. Not sure if that is so it slides easily or to prevent rust. It is all metal so possibly for both. Overall I'm happy with it and would recommend it.
